There is a criminal investigation underway now. A migratory bird is a big deal

On a somewhat related note. How about the guy who shot the mountain lion in the national park. He broke the law too.

thanks blue for the article.
i didn't know that it was an intentional act. that is horrible. i'm an animal lover, have dogs, fish, a bird, and turtles. someone intentionally shooting a golf ball at a living creature just because it was interrupting a video shoot?...common that's not human. there had to be a smarter way of handling that situation. hope the guy sits in jail every second of those 14 months kicking himself in the a**.
and for the hunters/fisherman out there. i don't have a problem with hunting to eat as long as you abide by the rules. as for fishing, i fish, but i 90% of time release my catch back into the ocean. and if i keep the fish i eat it and i do follow the rules and laws set by the California fish and game.

Stop tree hugging for a second. Accidents DO happen. Tripp didn't INTEND to kill anything. So,you'd have him do hard time, would you? As soon as Randy Johnson and Dave Winfield show up to do their time for killing birds with a ball, then you can lock up Tripp with 'em.
BTW-Have you priced a video crew for a day? In Orlando? I can understand why they were trying to get the damn bird to move.

How so? There were people trying to run the bird off before Tripp got there. He just had the lucky shot. You ever played there? I have. Those people are serious about their golf. Dead serious.

Pretty sure it was stated that he even acted shocked on impact. He never really thought he was going to hit it Pain

Rowdy , the difference between Johnson, Winfield and Tripp is they were playing the game when it happened. Trip was aiming at the bird. I am not saying he should do time, but he was just like Bubba, You know , the guy who shot the jukebox ! LOL They charged him with wreckles discharge of a gun, he said wreckless hell, I hit just where I was aiming ! Nuf Said ! LOL and Jara. I saw the interview, HE SAID he was shocked afterwards. Hell if he was that good on the course, he could win a tourney

Precisely what the radio show said that I heard the story on, lol. "You know he got out of it because all he had to do was show the authoritys his score card and they know it had to have been luck"

common rowdy...i'm not tree hugging here. i just wanted to know what happened and the fact of the matter is he shot a ball intentionally at a bird and in the back of his mind he knew there was a possibility of hitting it. it wasn't right, but it's not the end of the world either. he will serve his punishment and then life will go on. and yes the difference is randy johnson had no idea a bird was going to fly by before he threw it. and like i said, there had to have been a better way to deal with the situation.

Accidents happen, and even though his intentions weren't to kill the bird he WAS intentionally whacking small, hard, high velocity projectiles in the birds direction. Now, it doesn't take a genius to know that IF a ball hit the bird (you know, the balls that were intentionally being hit in it's direction, so the possibility was there) it could severely injure it.
That's common sense that my 12 year old exhibits. I mean, seriously.

I duno IF he should do time BUT being stupid is a crime in this case !!!!There was NO EXCUSE for it I don't care how serious you are about your golf ! If it had been a Bald Eagle more folks would be screaming for the IDIOTS head.. I am a golf nut play 3 to 5 days a week spring thru fall here in Michigan . I have tickets to 3 events this year 1 Major :D . Hitting golf balls at protected birds even if your not trying to hit the bird but KNOWING you could is just plain STUPID nuff said . A bird making noise is part of the game IMHO and nature is also .

While a bird making noise is part of the game,a bird making a racket during a video shoot is another matter entirely. And while the hawk IS protected, those things are as common as cow dung in Florida. And a royal pain in the butt to anyone trying to build a homesite there. I've seen multi-million dollar homesite plans trashed because someone THOUGHT on of those things was in a tree on the property. Tripp hit it and he'll pay a fine and do some community service. And that will be the end of it.
