I just got my new ball. And I used to throw with a very short backswing and now I want to bring it higher. I find myself with my new ball having too hold on really tight in the backswing because the thumb hole is too big. I can bend my thunb in the hole and my ball will still fall if I try to hold it with just my thumb. Can some tape in the thumb hole fix this?

Tape in the thumb hole can make it tighter, however if it is way too large it would likely be more beneficial to have the hole/slug itself adjusted.

You could also try a piece of velcro at the back of the thumb hole. I have been using velcro for about a year now and I never think about squeezing. The thumb is tight and comes off easily. I think velcro is the greatest.:)

Don't be afraid to double up (or more) on the tape.

Rolling off this thread, I probably have one of the most unusual problems occuring. My thumb on my bowling hand is getting larger because I'm starting to get caluses on both sides of my thumb at the knuckle.

I think its normal for bowlers to have a larger thumb on the hand that goes in the ball, my thumb is getting to be that way.

My thumb AND fingers on my bowling hand are larger than their brothers over yonder ;) Visually noticable.

So how does velcro prevent the squeezing? I assume you only put the soft side in, correct?

Man it wasn't but a month ago I finally got used to having the snug fit and no forceful grip that came with a properly fitted thumb. Looks like all five of the balls are going to the shop tomorrow to get the sides taken out a tad. My thumb is growing wider. Gotta protect the revs, no sticky releases

Well don't go using the scritchy side ;) lol Yes, soft side. The principle being that it fills a variable amount of space, but doesn't stick. It doesn't allow a vacuum to form in the thumbhole, either, which produces a great release.

It goes on the backside of the thumb. Make damn sure you shave it down or you'll take the skin off the back of your thumb. The fit should feel snug, that way you feel like your thumb is firmly in the ball. That equals less squeezing. They really do work,I have 'em in all of my thumbholes.
