and taking some lessons. Here is the situation. My current avg. is somewhere around 175. The week before Thanksgiving, I came out of the ball funny and ended up actually tearing some ligaments in my ring finger. Like an idoit I rolled with it until the mid-season break. Finally got smart and decided to sit out until it was heeled. Fast forward up to 3 weeks ago. I'm back in league, first game since the injury was 204 or something like that. I haven't seen anything over 160 since that game. I went for some practice games today, cause I figure 3 games a week just isn't enough to stay consistant or get any better. Took the video camera along to see if I could figure out the problem. WOW. Actually, more like disgusting! I was falling off of shots. Pulling them, dumping them in the ditch. My approach wasn't the same a single eff'n time. One roll, I'd have my wrist cupped and hookin' off the alley, the next shot would be broken back, and roll straight down to the 10 pin. I don't know if my timing is just way off since I haven't thrown much, or if I'm subconciously worrying about re-injuring my finger. Anyway, I broke down and I'm having some lessons next Weds. with my proshop guy. He's a gold level coach, and we're going to do the whole bowlers map, digitrax videotape thing. Hopefully its something small that he'll notice right away that is easily fixable. If its a mental thing, we all know how difficult that can be to overcome. Just thought I would vent alittle and of course open myself up for suggestions and or advice.

You are doing the right thin kurmie. Keep us informend on how you made out with the coach and keep that open mind between you and him. A good relationship between a coach and the student is essential to good bowling.

Its something I've been wanting to do for a while now. This just forces me to get off of my butt and do it.

ok guys, here is an update. I went back to the alley yesterday for some more practice and to see if I could narrow down the problems so that we could consentrate on those areas during my lesson. Just seeing what you guys think about my adjustments. To start off with, I fixed my problem with pulling shots be stading alittle sideways on the approach. Think Chris Barnes but with alittle more twist. About a 20 degree right turn from being totally perpendicular to the line. I also swiched back to a four step approach since my timing was so off. Now I just need to stop coming around the ball so much and go up the back alittle more. On a side note, for those of you that have had lesson before, what should I expect and what should I bring along with me. ie; pen and paper for taking notes. Thinking about asking him to set me up a pratice routine, that way I'm actually tuning my skill instead of just rolling for a score. I never intend it that way, but thats what my practice always turns into.

You don't get to pick what will be worked on. Thats the coaches job. Just warm up and roll. He'll find the things he thinks you need to work on. Since you haven't had lessons before,a first session should involve a lot of time just talking with each other. He'll want to know what you expect to get out of the lessons and you'll want to know what he's trying to accomplish. If he gives you a drill to do,ask what the purpose of it is. A lot of lessons involve "feel". Feedback from you is critical here. Don't say you feel something if you don't. Keep working at it.
