Hi Eightball. I feel for you bud. Alot of find this is happeneing top us also. I myself find it happening to me. I shoot 210+ -170-then comeback with a big 200. In my case I think my situation occurs as the nlanes start to transition. or carryl down . What I usually do is go to a more aggressive ball / adjust more right for a righty or slow the ball speed down.

Hey Eight ball.
I started off the year with this exact same problem. There is a move needed but I try to hold on to the old line or ball too long. You need to make a move, and confidently go after it.
For me the solution is to move my mark and feet left by 2.5 boards. But as bubba said if your getting more carry down then you might just need to move you feet right (assuming your a righty).

With todays technology, new lane oils, conditioners, soaker coverstocks, put 10 bowlers (2 5 man teams) and the conditions can change darn near shot to shot. Adjusting is the name of the game. I tend to struggle during the 2nd game until the shot finishes out.
The bowler who sees the transition and adapts the quickest usually wins.

Ah,the bad old days. I used to have scores like that. Roll a big opening number and think that every game was going to be like that. Didn't bear down as hard in the second game and the score suffered. Then the shot changed and I missed it goofing off in the second game and couldn't find it when the panic set in come the third game. When the first game is over, it's gone. History. Doesn't exist anymore. You need to roll the second game as hard as you did the first. Then you'll be on top of the lane changes when they happen.

came from practice with CHERRY VIBE,EXPECTED LANES TO BE ON DRY SIDE,BUT TO MY SURPRISE WAS STILL NICE SHOT,FIRST BALL WASHED OUT, STARTED TOO DEEP EXPECTING DRY,MOVE TO RIGHT SOME,STILL NOT CONSISTANT,SO CHANGED FINGER POSITION(SPREAD INDEX WIDE,PINKY SLIGHTLY SPREAD) AND SLOWED DOWN SPEED,AND CV WAS LOOKING SWEET BY LAST GAME,DID 166,(FINDING LINE ETC...),190,213,259,VIBE IS VERY HARD HITTING BALL AS LONG AS CONDITIONS ARE RIGHT AND GOOD RELEASE,BY THE WAY, EVEN THO I WAS PRACTICING, I WANTED SIMULATE I WAS PLAYING TO SCORE IN LEAGUE,HOPEFULLY I CAN MAKE THOSE ADJUSTMENTS SOONER WITH CONFIDENCE THIS WEEK,THX AGAIN GUS FOR IMPUT:cool:

Look at the scores. They all went UP every game. Thats something to build on. Those last three games was a 663 series with a Cherry Vibe. I'd take that anytime.

consistancy,195+186+159=540,consistantly worse:eek: ,oh well back to drawing board, lanes broke down very quick, like after practice, moving further left after 5 frames, lot of flush pocket hit,but light high hits and brooklyns and shitty hits carried 2nite,i tried hard to make adjustments but fell short again, cherry vibe was worse then toxic, change finger position ,line ,release,,loft, then i just got fustrated and confused, very humbling experiance i must admit, back to drawing board:confused:

Yup had a week like that this week, 171/164/230, ball was over hooking the whole night and I refused to change:rolleyes: , so the last game I moved left (lefty) and somehow that worked.

It usually only takes one or two drinks for me to loosen up and bowl better. I haven't tried more while bowling, but I'm sure it would get worse after that. I try not to drink very often when bowling just because I don't want to think I have to drink to bowl better.
Anyway, consistency wise...I bowled league last weekend (Sunday) and here's what I had: 203, 201, 168. Monday went to practice at another house (where I started bowling and bowled junior leagues for 8 years) and had: 210, 170, 191, 214, 155. I'm doing a lot better for consistency, but still have my bad days.
It's just a learning process. One of my problems is to move too early anticipating the change when I don't actually need to move yet.

Heres what helped me during league: a routine even down to when I pick up the ball. When I get the ball in my hands I want it to be my turn and I can get on the alley to bowl. Check chosen starting position, make sure finger is tucked, wrist is cocked, ring finger at right position. This takes just a couple of seconds and doesnt hold up the other bowlers, then bowl and trust your mark. A set routine should help clear out bad bowling thoughts. Watch the ball all the way to the pocket. Keep under control even when not striking. I have seen lots of bowlers give up on a game after a couple of opens or bad breaks and from there it only gets worse. A routine and simple set up thoughts might help. Good luck.

Hey eight (and all else) just a thought. Like one of the previous posts stated sometimes the shot changes each frame!! You may want to start charting some leaves from frame to frame and study them. There may be a trend as to which way you need to move and how much by formed patterns. Example: the third frame of game two...bucket (or similar) two or three weeks in a row. It may help to make some moves before disaster hits by predicting......just my $ .02 of experience.
