Finger positions... clock references... I feel like a fool. Ashamed to even mention my mathematic related degree. Seems like alot of resources use a clock to reference finger positions, but most times it seems like to me it would make more sense to reference hand positions in relation to a clock.

Does the generic clock analogy refer to a normal clock that would be facing you on a wall while your in your stance, ball held in from of you?

Or, does it reference a clock face on the ball it's self... i.e. your thumb is always directly across from your fingers, thumb at 12 then fingers at 6... thumb at 9 then fingers are at 3?

OR, are you fingers and thumb located on /considered along the outside edge of the ball clock? i.e. the more you cup your wrist the farther past 6 and closer to 9 your fingers get.

(Making this much harder than it is...)

The clock reference would be as if you were facing the clock on the wall. Finger positions should be positioned accordingliy as mentioned .

Okay, you are right handed correct?

Take a clock off of the wall. When you dont turn your hand and come straight out of the ball, look at where your hand is, at 6 o clock. The maximum you should turn is on the side of the ball entirely, or at 3 o clock. The positions between 6 and 3 are more finger positions.

Usually, the thumb isnt mentioned, the number should never go higher than 9 or lower than 6 for a righty, because these are finger positions, past 9 is spinning the ball, before 6 is backup ball.

Yea same thing Bubba said which makes sense. I was telling myself to keep it simple because that's the obvious first thought that popped in mind. Dunno how I got sidetracked with the numbers one ball and what not. Thanks though.

Hey blisters, before six is the regular releases. Your measurements are for a lefty.

I'll second that or we both are misunderstanding what he is trying to say.

Basically think of it like this, in front of you is 12 o'clock and behind you is 6 o'clock.

Ah yes, that may have caused some of my confusion as well TenPin. The clock analogy does not keep a fixed clock ahead of you but the face of clock basically stays facing the front of the ball in your stance and follows it down through the backswing. I see where my consfusion came from.

Facing the pins in my stance the clock is facing me, but if the ball is at the bottom of the downswing, the clock is laying on the floor.

The clock is your grip, per se. It's a reference to how you come out of the ball.

For more of a forward roll, you come out of the ball with your fingers at 6 o'clock. If you are turning the ball, your fingers should not come out of the ball past 3 o'clock. Unless you want a spinner release or kill ball reaction.
