Been looking at balls for awhile to try and find the perfect length ball with a snap backend into the pocket. I will be ordering from bowling.com since free shipping is at my house in 1 day. They are out of the Toxic in my weight, or being discontinued, one of the 2. The CV, I have read, can be a tad unpredictable. So I was looking at Columbia Wrath Dead Flush with drilling number 4 on it, from their site. Does anyone know about this ball? Any input would be great. Trying to stay in the Ebonite family. Here is the link to the drilling:

Not to judge here but you should give a local proshop a chance first. Where would you get your internet ball drilled? In my area the price of shipping plus drilling work out to be the same or close enough to just buy the ball from the pro shop. You get to see the product before you pay and build a good relationship with your driller vs a polite screw this ars hole buying his crap on line...
That being said if I was going Columbia I would drill up a Momentum, and I'll never buy another ball on line...

To order online and have it delivered in a day is $110 plus drilling and inserts another $30 so $140 altogether. Or I can order from my pro shop, have it delivered in a week, drilling and inserts, $220. $80 is a lot of money to be saving and that is 2 full tanks of gas on my car.

The Wrath is a very good ball. It will have good length and a decent backend. Compared to the Cherry Vibe, the Vibe is much stronger in the back. They are pretty similar through the front part of the lane with the CV getting a hair cleaner.

Think he was assuming that the proshop would already have it in stock. But your point makes sense if the proshop has to order it as well.

I personally tested the Wrath Dead flush, doesnt work so well on a high volume oil shot. It was best suited for me when there was a medium shot out there or some carry down. Didnt seem to skid flippy to me. If your wanting something to really just skid flip i would take a look at the Ebonite Clash, (since you want to stay in the ebonite family). I would recommend some brunswick or Storm stuff because thats mainly what i throw but its your choice. Give the Clash a quick glance though. Nice mid-priced ball with alot more back-end than you would think from such a cheap ball. I had one but was just a tad to much for where i normally bowl at. And i kinda drilled it really strong so that didnt help either :).

Ive heard from the guys at my pro shop, that balls ordered online are cheaper, because the quality isnt is good. Theyre balls that didnt quite make the grade, but werent bad enough to scrap. He said that when people buy them online, and bring them in that theyre tougher to drill due to...well whatever he told me it was pin or core or somethings off. Anyways ill always go proshop even if it means spending alittle more. Quality is priceless....well actually...

Incubus, that can happen but if u ask for certain things, it usually works out. Its a lot easier to buy symmetric stuff because u don't have the cg being way too off line like assymetric stuff has to worry about. HOW IS A PROSHOP SELLING A WRATH DEAD FLUSH FOR 220? did u even go in a look? if so, slap the dude in his face and walk away.

Heck my proshop will get you anything as long as its in stock at the distributor, the next day. He needs to know by 3 pm... if that not reasonable I don't know what is...

Pretty sure Wraths around here sell for $140-170, ballpark... have not priced them... but they are no $220+ bowling ball. Probably not even a $200 at most places. Widow's can be had for $180-200 out the door, grips and tax included.
So call the local shop, before you order.
Ball online: $80-140bucks
Shipping: free-$15
Drilling: $25-40
Inserts: $6-10
Slug: $6-15
Total minus Tax: $117-220 (This is using the ranges low to high)
Not much saved IMO. With the crap balls I've seen from some of the on-line orders.

Yes I went in and looked and asked him what he would charge. He said $220 walk out. So I went to bowling.com and did the math. Comes out cheaper for me. I have never had a problem with them before about bad balls.
On a side note, why should I support this Pro Shop and pay the $220? The owner of the house gutted it and redid everything! Once the Pro Shops lease is up the owner will be kicking them out. They will no longer have leagues and will be strictly fun bowling, which is why they dont need a Pro Shop. You just find the best Pro Shop in town and this happens to you.
Like I said in my first post
Ball online with free shipping=1 day for me, $110
Drilling and inserts, $30
Total, $140
Thank you blue and etonix for giving me an opinion on the ball and not criticize me for ordering online. Much appreciated.

I saw the previous poster's comments as suggestions/advice as opposed to criticism.

How so?
Suggestions would have been telling me a Hammer ball or another brand that is like the Wrath.
Advice would have been answering my question about how good the Wrath is.
I only saw 2 people to actually give me suggestions and advice. The others said I should get it from my Pro Shop. Still don't see how that is a suggestion or advice.

My post was not meant as criticism just a suggestion, and sorry I've never rolled a Wrath.
But here is some incite for you, the more people in your area that buy their balls on line the more pro shops that will be closing!
I just figured you knew this from your other post:
I never understood the importance of a good pro shop. The pro shop at my house is never really busy and not very stocked. I had my hand measured there and my equipment drilled there. IT WAS WRONG!!! I drove 45 minutes to the best pro shop in town and WOW! That is all I can say. ...

To answer your question on the Dead Flush, it is a nice ball. I had a few in stock and sold them all, they were $130 - drilling included.
I was only able to do an angular drilling on one of them, 5 1/2 pin-pap distance.
It does have the ability to be snappy, you just have to have it drilled to do so.

Think alot of us where, just making sure that you did not overlook your local guy... did try to get a better price from him. I'd tell the guy the situation and see what he can do for you.
Hopefully he will open a new shop once his lease is up. Hopefully his prices at the new location will be better. You can expect to sell Wrath's for $220. He is off his freaking rocker if you ask me. Be better be scraping out the logo's and filling with platinum, gold, silver or copper... something with some value.
Shame on that house for what they are doing, every real bowler should boycott the place and tell their friends to do the same. Leagues here are still bread and butter... look at the food, drinks, proshop items and weekly fee's we pay to bowl. Plus we show every week for what 30+ weeks, some of us bowl 2+ times a week and summer as week. Pretty sure my local house like the fact that my summer is paid off already (1st night, $20 a week, plus $33 sancation for the Sport this summer, through next fall and summer, some sort of deal.)

"Strictly Fun Bowling" is code for,"$4.75 a game or $25.00 an hour, all you can roll". More and more houses are going this way,it seems that the closer they are to a population of yuppies who don't have a clue about bowling, the more they jack up the prices per game and run the pro shop and league bowlers off.
That truly sucks about the pro shop closing. Tell the guy you'll follow him with your business if he opens another one. I know a couple of guys who thought they didn't have the "following" to open another pro shop until all their league bowlers assured them that they would go to where ever they opened up a new shop. Their business is booming.
I don't have a problem with you ordering the ball online since you gave your local guys the chance to meet or beat the price. These days you gotta save a dollar where ever you can.

I will be sure to let him know I will follow him. Took off work so I could go there and talk with them. He has been in the same place since 1980 and according to the BBB in annual sales he brings in close to a million every year. He is located in a rich part of Houston and I can see how he gets that. Why in the world would you shut that down? He brings in more money than the house does!
