So the season end banquet was Friday night. Our team did well and I ended up cashing $565 (down $205 form last year). But here is the kicker. I started out the year as the "A" bowler but after the first 5 nights (they establish your average after 20 games) I was moved down to the B bowler as my teammate consistently held a 192 all year. I was able to get my average up to 190 by the end of the year but once the averages where established I never rolled as the "A" bowler again. Now at the beginning of the year our president said you will qualify for awards in the division you bowl for "most" of the year. So I'm stoked because I had a great night last month and put up a 930 (4 game series) for hi "B" division series which is worth $100. Well they start doing the awards and they call out my "A" bowler for a "B" side high average! At this point I know I'm screwed cause my A bowler just won a b side award so we never got accounted for in our proper class! So Our "A" bowler also wins high game screwing a different "B" bowler out of cash as well.

Unfortunately my awesome series was 7 and 8 pins shy of third and second high series on the "A" side so no cash for that. What also got my goat was last year in my class I had high game (300) and high series in my class but they only gave me high series cause they said you can only win one of the two. But this year a few people won high average and high series. So now I got screwed out of $100 this year and $100 last year!

Now I don't bowl for the money, I roll for the love of the game and I thrive on the competition. I hate to lose and I hate to be screwed out of what is rightfully mine.

So I wait until the awards are over and I privately speak with the president and secretary about my issue. Well the secretary said they changed the rule so you are in the class you start he season in. And I politely point out that the president announced otherwise during the meetings at the beginning of the year and this "changed" rule was never voted on or announced to the league. But she insisted and I hate confrontation so I back down but I'm pissed. I really wish I had Rowdy with me to really give it to her!

It was still a great showing, and I would have no problem if that was the rules at the beginning of the year. Anyway I'd quit this league if it wasn't so awesome. It's scratch match play on a harder shot. It's just hard to find a league like this anymore....

At least they were giving away pretty good amounts of money. The fact that the $100 brightened up a fellow bowler's day should cheer you up. I received $20 ($100 for the entire team) at the end of the season. I think we received $1 per point for the whole season. Next fall I'm making the 25 minute drive to alley that I actually enjoy.

Ok so the question is do I persue this through my CTF (Canadian USBC) rep. Or should I just let it go and keep the peace, knowing that at least it went to my teammate...

i agree. make sure when you start a new season with that league bring it up in the rules meeting.

We did our rules meeting at the end of the year banquet and we will do it again when the season starts. For instance, my female teammate had female high series for the year. They said she didnt qualify cause she didnt bowl for 2/3 of the year (she missed alot to go to visit her kids in another state). But her argument which i agree with, even though she didnt bowl 2/3 of the year, she did pay for over 2/3 of the year. That rule was challenged and changed to having to have paid 2/3+ of the season to qualify.

I know around here it's pretty commmon to only be able to get High Game or High Series. But you can earn High Average... they keep it separate from the other to awards.

Not sure that really helps.

It might be worth talking the local USBC Rep about the situation... see what they think. Might be a good place to vent the frustration and at worst case they give you some good advice on how to make sure this get addressed correctly for next season.

Plus, you could try to get those league officials voted out...

Well the problem is a really like everyone involved. The league president is also the pro shop owner and a buddy of mine. We have drinks after bowling and play the odd game of poker. I know he feels bad and said he would look into the meeting minutes, where the secretary just flat out said no. The really funny thing is my "A" bowler is also the treasurer, but he didn't do anything to for his treasurer duties (the pres and secretary picked up his slack). I did give him shiz about it, but honestly he clutched for us and every time he needed 2 or 3 in the tenth for team totals he always pulled it out.

Well I think I just answered my own question. It's a pain in the ars to run a league. From what I've seen in my limited 6 years of bowling and from what others say about leagues in their area, I'm really lucky to have such an awesome format for a league in my area. So I'll let it go and maybe the Pres will give me a few free runs through the Rejuvinator and Haus for my troubles...

Why I like this league:

4 Games - 33% more bowling than a 3 game league!
Scratch - No handi-crap to deal with!

Match Play - Each 3 person team has a 535 cap, and your A, B, C bowlers are ranked by average highest to lowest. So a 160 bowler can enjoy match play against some one of similar ability. The thrill of match play is so fun and you get it every week!
Harder Shot - Not quite a sport shot but harder than a THS. People who bowl in this league and also roll in another league generally have a 10 pin lower average in our league. Also this shot gets used for the competitive tournaments as it's "sportish". I would prefer a PBA exp but I'll take what I can get. Plus I rolled my 300 in this league which makes me stoked that I rolled one not on a THS...

Big Pay Out - When you don't get screwed out of your cash you get a pretty good return on your season. However it is $30 a week which is pricey. I wouldn't mind paying less weekly and winning less at the end of the year.
People - Second last but not least the people in this league are great. Sure there's always some arse hole's here and there but it is really a good group of people. All the hardcore bowlers in the area bowl in this league, plus people that want to get better (like myself). 10 pin is a small minority in Canada (majority of bowling is 5 pin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Five-pin_bowling)) and people that are into it really roll this league and another and usually do tournaments.

Good Ally - They have harder wood lanes, but the staff never charges me to practice. Heck I throw balls for a hour after league every week. The ally is 45 min away from my home and I can only get out once a week, so this is the most bang for my buck.

You call their asses on the carpet and put your foot down on their necks until they fork over your cash.

Here is a Universal Bowling Truth:Once you start rolling for score and/or cash, you have NO friends out on the lanes. They can be your friend before and after you bowl, but only you can, and will, look out for yourself in the trenches.

I'd seriously rethink rolling with these people again unless you do something about the situation now. Or do you want to wait until next time to see how much more they will try and screw you,now that they know you won't make a fuss???
