Is it mandatory that the amount of oil in a house shot has to be consistent during the season. ?
I am not an expert but by looking at the amount of oil that the ball has when it returns now compared in jan-feb, I have a feeling they are using less and less oil. (maybe has something to do with the higher oil prices).
There are some other players also are noticing that the lanes are not playing the same each week.

I'm almost positive its not because of the higher oil prices :D
Could either be that there putting less down or its warmer/ more humid so the oil is drying up faster than it normally would in Jan./ Feb. when it was colder.

There are many variations of THS nowdays. The drier conditions I don't beleive has anything to do with the current oil prices. Better bowling centers are constantly carefully evaluating the lane conditioning process and procedures to provide customers with more consistent lane conditions. However, the number of people that bowled on the lane, types of balls used, overhead lighting, the porosity of the wood or the synthetic lane, humidity, and temperature of the center also effect the conditions to some degree.
The type of conditioner also plays a factor on how the lane plays in ball reaction also.
Propritors have guidlines from the USCB to follow for oil patterns. But remember all houses might have the same lenght pattern down but different units of oil on the lane.

The difference can be cause by weather...
Hot or Cold
Moisture in the air.
If the house insist they're laying the same pattern week to week... then I'd guess the problem is weather.
If your convinced other wise it could be Lane Machine maintence. If the are not change Applicator Pads that will cause problems if its not spreading the oil evenly.
Even surface wear, depending on the lane surface... mainly with wooden surfaces. Synthetics do transition and wear as well.
Really it could be a number of things cause inconsistent ball reaction.
