Was asked to join a summer league which I am excited about because all I did was sub for most of the fall and was ineligible for any prizes. I noticed the only side game going on is poker and I was interested in organizing what we called king of the hill during the fall. I'm sure others called it by another name, it's not brackets but the side game where the pool gets cut in half after each game depending on high scores plus handicap. After third game the pot is divied amonst the top three or two with third getting a free ride in next week.
Was wondering from anyone else who's participated or ran this how to run the payout structure if I get enough interest. I'm not sure too many ppl in this league have ever seen this before and I've only been a participant and never actually ran the system. Any tips would be appreciated. I think this week I'll just take a poll to see who's interested.

The reason poker is popular is because everyone has a chance to win it. It's all in the luck of the draw. Those "King of the Hill" deals are great until everyone figures out that they are subsidising the nights bowling for the same few guys who always finish on top.
For any side pot to attain wide spread appeal, everyone has to have a really good chance of winning the thing. Otherwise the guys who think they can't win will keep their cash in their pocket.
Personally, with the way gas and food prices are going,I won't be spending any of my cash on side pots for a good long while. I even quit buying 50/50 tickets.

From how you explained it, my old league did that they called it the eliminator, 16 got cut to 8 after 1, then 8 got cut to 4, 4th place got money back, 3rd doubled there money, 2nd was usually like 25$ and 1st was 40$. Was a little incentive to keep rolling consistently high scores so you made the cut every game and made the money.

My friend runs this. King of Hill its all the same just diff name.
If He had 20 bowlers He take top 10 with cap and any ties got carried over so if the cut was 200 the 1st game and 2 people bowled it you might have 11 carry over. Then same for the 2nd game 210 say if you had 11 take top 5-6 how every you like to run it or they run it then pays 1-3rd most places.
Also last nite someone else runs it for Friday nites it was the last nite he did the usually buy in $5 with an extra $2 it got you into game 2 for the 2nd chance. Im not sure how he did it really but my buddy won it and got $50 in the 2nd chacne and in the reg set up 1st pays around $80 and 2nd around $40. Maybe some else can help explain that better.
I just like it cuz if you bowled a bad game to start you still had a shot at money. I think the extra $2 that everyone paid went into that side pot if you missed the reg cut.
