Long time lurker. Anyway bought a No Mercy a couple weeks back to replace my Hawg but I'm having issues finding the pocket with it. Lanes have been medium oil of late.

What problems are you having? I am guessing over-hooking since you are using it on medium oil.
Also, most of the guys here that are far smarter than I am would need to know what type of bowler you are? Stroker, Tweener, Cranker what sort of speed you throw etc......you will get all the advice you need, I promise you.
I have heard that it is less forgiving than other hammers in that you must keep the speed up etc to maintain consistency.....

Actually the problem is not enough hook. I totally forgot about giving some background on how I throw. Stroker at about 16 mph. The thing is with my Hawg everything is just fine. Consistent and predictable path and break. But not so much with the NO Mercy...

Hmm... could be 2 things right off the bat. The No Mercy is supposed to be really particular about it's drilling patterns. It's possible that it's not drilled properly (could you post a pic?). And it's also possible that the ball is burning up before it has a chance to make it down the lane. Maybe you need some more oil for it to work properly. Just a couple of guesses. I'm sure people with more knowledge than me will be able to help you.

From what I have heard the No Mercy is very unpredictable.. I have not used it, but the pro shop I go to and a few bowlers in my league that have used it all say they struggle to find the pocket with it..
My pro shop owner has a 227 avg. and could not find the pocket and said its very unpredictable and also the couple bowlers are in my mens league and everyone avg's. 190+..
That is just what I have heard on the No Mercy, but I have also heard a couple compliments on the ball from the forum, so maybe you could ask Pincrusher??
Just a thought..

I tested one and unless you have alot of oil or like playing way deep on a THS(Typical House Shot) then it burned up before it gets there. As a stroker if you normally play second arrow move to the fourth and see if that helps.

Yeah I am a stroker and bowl 15mph. The ball is not inconsietent (other wise I wouldnt have bowled a 279 with it) but yes, you do have to throw deep inside with it, and yes you have to keep up you speed. But It might be how it's drilled. My is drilled the reccomended layout. One thing that I have found is that it does not like carry down at all! I threw it on medium lanes 41ft oil with carry down and it didn't move. The lanes have to be fairly fresh. I threw it on short oil pattern last monday, I threw it about 7 to 3 and boom! about the 3rd game I had to go 15 to 8. Today I'll be trying out the long oil pattern so I'll keep you posted. But it is very unforgiving in terms of keeping up aggresiveness, because it you don't you'll probably leave a single pin, but it is very forgiving in terms of pin action, any light shot is a strike any pocket shot is a strike.
Pin action: 1-10
Blue Urethane Hammer- 6
Tropical Storm-7
Hawg Wild-8
No Mercy-10
It doesn't leave weak pins at all. If you leave a single pin, there is no doubt that the pin will be shaking. But How many revs do you get on the ball? That could be a problem too, or it could be carrydown, or it could be the way it's drilled.?... ;)

Thanks guys.
I'm pretty sure it was drilled the way Hammer recommended.
After league the other night one of guys from the alley started talking to me how I was setting up all wrong for the ball. That the No Mercy needs a lot of oil. Something about a deeper line. So I setup at the second arrow and try to get the ball down over the 20 to 15 board. It just never comes back. Any and all help is greatly appreciated...

sounds like you should be throwing the Hawg. Don't fix it if it ain't broke

What he was getting at is swing the ball, trying putting the ball inside the second arrow (10 board) shot 12-15 at arrows, out to 10-8 at 38-45ft.
This is a exaggerated ideal of what I would like you to try. Remember, the ball will do it job if thrown right. This is one of the most unique balls of the last 10 years. Last thing this cool was Particle Technology (Proactive, Synactive, blah, blah...) Guess thats my opinon!
Also make sure knee is bent, kicking leg behind slid leg and strong follow thru.
Do you know how the boards count? Also, if we could see a video that would be awesome. If you don't want to post it on the video website, pm for my e-mail, several shots would be great, don't want to see 5 edited strike shots. Make strike shots, take notes about what its not doing for us.(put notes in notepad save as "nomercynotes.txt")The notes will let us know what you are thinking and adjustments made. Maybe we can find something.

That's what I have been doing- but when a guy wants a new ball, a guy wants a new ball....
Thanks TenPin. Boards count right to left. I'll see about getting some video..

Well I threw the No Mercy on heavy oil, and yeah it can handle it. Throw it straight down 5 board and you got it, but 2nd game you better watch out!.!.!

yeah I hear ya......but when that guy struggles with the new shit he shouldn't be surprised. I got my Widow and struggle with it but I think I got it all down now. You just have to toy around with it man. Don't take what I said too serious. All I am saying is either bowl with it and learn the ball or throw the good ole trusty till you know what is going on with the new ball. I usually pulled out the Widow to start and if it started going down hill I switched to a bvall that was more predictable. Good luck with it though

Never know... try it out and let us know. Some balls I have play straight up the boards and other like a little room on the same shot/same night. Had good nights both ways.
Good example of two of my more current favorites:
High Rev: To me play awesome straight up the boards. Sometimes it like some room.
Raw Hammer Pain: Really like the in and out with this ball. When polished it plays straight up the boards well enough.
With that said you could try to polsih the ball or slow down.

Last night was my third set with the NoMercy. 223 - 300 - 241 = 764
Drill pattern #1 - lot of revs on the ball and 17 mph.
I have had medium oil each night and have shot well, I do not like playing across the middle and I do not think the NoMercy is a strong as I would like in a heavy oil shot - I think thats because of the speed I put on the ball.
My ball is awesome when I cross the 15 going out and drives back to the pocket. I can get out to the one board and still blow the rack. Best shot is the 15 - 5 range. Just AWESOME.
