I've been doing alot of research bout my hawgzilla, here's what i've found. my ebonite tomohawk has its dot bout 1 inch beneath my ringer and bout half an inch to the right, mw hawg has its dot half an inch above my ring finger and half an inch to the right. i bowled with both this weekend and found that my ebonite was breaking harder and earlier then my hawg!! is it cuz of the dot position and if it is should i have my hawgzilla redrilled to move the dot under my ringfinger?? i throw around 20 mph so i need it to break early not go long.

Here is how mine is drilled. I throw pretty fast most of the time but this drilling seems to allow the ball to hook even at a high rate of speed.

Generally speaking...
If the pin (dot) is high, or above your fingers, the ball will go longer. If the pin is low, or below your fingers, the ball will break earlier.

see thats what i thought, now here's my next ? if i had my ball filled then redrilled to put the dot under the ring finger will it still hook like i want it or will it not cuz its been filled/redrilled??? how much does that affect the ball???

Very small percentage of overall hook. To me not worth it unless you are having problems.

Remember the cover of the ball is 70-80 percent of the hook. So thats what i would change. Take it to 2000 or 1000 grit... could try lighty polishing it to tame down at those level to find some in-between points. Heck try scotch brite on the ball too. When you change the surface it not a full resurface, just enough to get he overall look of 2000 or lower.

Then you have core and drilling covering the rest of the 20-30 percent of overall hook. Maybe a small balance hole, but that all depend of the static how the ball weights out.

WOW BradM... is it me or are you using a pretty modified grip? It looks like your thumb must have grown out of your hand in an odd place ;) lol

Didn't see thumb hole before, looks like the Sarge Easter grip or Reverse of it.

thumb placement does affect the balls preformance also. Moving it side to side will change the ball movement, so I have heard. Also regarding the original post moving the pin left or right also changes the hook...

Nah don't think so... both of those finger inserts only accept tips... unless he's got fingers like a lady ;) Actually, it looks like it MIGHT only accept his thumb tip, which means that the ball might be harder to hold onto if your wrist isn't cupped quite a bit. It looks like it allows him to throw the ball and have it spin on its axis (like a planet)... but who knows... maybe he throws like a lunatic and that just allows his ball to roll normally ;)

j/k btw

DING DING DING! We have a winner. For some reason I can't get it in my head how to throw a ball properly so, my driller made adjustments for my style. Now I get a nice semi roller instead of the crap I was ending up with before.:o
