Depends on what the leave is for me. All one and two pin leaves including splits, it's usually hard and straight for me. Multiple pins I'm usually hooking because it's usually easier for me to get the desired pin action.

I hook the ball at all my spares except the 10 pin and the 6 pin. I have more control with my strike ball when shooting st my spares this way than a plastic straight ball.

I use my strike ball for everything from the 2 pin right depending on the shot of course, if its a PBA/Sport shot everything except the 2-4-7-8 is shot at with the spare ball or if its a dry house shot I usually throw the spare ball at all spares, but a normal THS I use the strike ball for everything from the 2 pin right, I usually throw it straighter with more speed on the spare shot.

Not at all. My plastic spare ball has a small amount of hook in it and I throw that shot at every spare. Even the 10 pin,I just aim to the right side of the 10 pin and let the ball come back a couple of boards.

No IMO it is not odd.. I throw a hook at most of them except the 6/10

Really depends what I leave standing..

If your making your spares, then however you throw them is fine. Personally I like to throw plastic strait at most spares, but there are a bunch that I'm more comfortable hooking into (all double wood, or the 1, 3, 5, 8 these single pin spares are like a chance to practice your strike line).

But most of the pros including Parker BohnIII (who I asked about this in a clinique last year), will recommend throwing a plastic ball strait. Especially on a harder or different shot, if you are leaving allot of spares you may be struggling with your hook reaction. So if you can't get to the pocket how can you get to a pin. Throwing plastic strait is the same on any lane any where in the world (before any of the "I release my plastic ball the same as my strike and it hooks" chime in, I'm talking broken wrist with 0 axis rotation).

The following is quoted from http://www.bowlercentral.com/RonClifton.htm
I suggest investing in a plastic ball for shooting at spares.

Bowlers in the 170-190 range may need to work on spares the most in order to raise the old book average next year. Bowlers in this average range are starting to throw more strikes. There is nothing more fun than throwing strikes, so that is what gets practiced the most. Often they need to be working on making more spares. Each spare missed costs the bowler 10 pins. So if you are in this average range and you are missing more than 2 easy spares in a 3 game set, then you need to work on your spares. Spares are often taken for granted because they seem simple. If they are so simple why do we miss them? I suggest learning how to throw your strike ball straight or use a plastic ball for shooting at spares. This will take the lane condition out of the game. Stop hooking the ball at opposite side spares. If you are right handed for example, and you are hooking the lane to make the 7 pin, then stop it now! If you have any hopes of traveling around and bowling tournaments one day, you will die if you are hooking the ball at your left side spares. That’s because on some lane conditions, the ball will hook a bunch and on others hardly at all. On some lane conditions, it may do both.

i use my plastic ball on 10's straighter like Rowdy had mentioned to the right on it.
anything else i normally use my Clash drilled fairly weak with a little more speed than my strike ball.
