I dont tape my holes and my stuff is fine, I use ball baths religiously too.

there is no need to tape the holes. The inside of the ball doesnt soak up water.

The only annoying thing is if you use tape as it gets wet as, especially if it's the white textured kind, sometimes leaves gunk on the slug when you finally remember it's there and try to pick it out of the hole.

I used a cork last time - thought I was being clever. Shame I forgot about the vent hole...:(
