There is always talk of the most overrated and most underrated baseball, basketball and football player. What CURRENT PBA player is the most overrated? underrated?
Overrated...Dare I say CB?
10 years...10 titles. Patrick Allen has 10 titles in 9 years(only 7 as a full time touring pro). He doesn't get near the love as CB gets from the PBA. CB is definitely an exceptional player. However, I don't know if he is so much better than everybody else. PA has a better television winning %. But, Barnes makes more shows.
IMO, the most underrated player is easily Mike Edwards. He has been so consistent for so long. It is sad that he hasn't won more.(I guess I made a case for PA as underrated as well).
Thoughts?

Most overrated - I am agreeing with Chris Barnes.
Most underrated - I am going to have to say Chris Loschetter. Definitely one of the better younger pros and I think he has amazing potential. It may take a bit to win his first few titles, but I definitely think he has it in him.

With most underrated..hmm...
I'd have to go with Michael Fagan. He finally won his first tour title pairing up with Danny Wiseman, he's fun to watch (he throws mostly Hammer) and he has potential

How are you judging the most over rated and under rated player? Is it winning percentage or TV appearences. I think the overall aspect should be considered. It should be looked at the most tournaments cashed in and the players who made the cut the most times.
If you want me opinion on CB I think CB would do much better if he get away from Columbia and goes with Ebonite ot Hammer. The problem being with his equipment. CB has the talent and skills , the equipment just holds him back. He needs some asymetrical equipment which is one thing Columbia doesn't make. The only Asymetrical cored ball they make is the Momentum Swing

I would definately agree on Chris Barnes being the most overrated player.
The most underrated player I would have to agree is Chris Loschetter.

Chris Barnes is not overrated, he is just over publicized ! Although I dont really care for him, he is a good bowler. Kinda like Tiger, he is a great golfer and we all know that. But now I start to question his judgement. But he is the greatest and I think we are all tired of hearing about it !

I agree with Bubba and Stampy. I don't think he's overrated at all. He just gets more exposure leading you to believe he's so hyped. Has an exceptional amateur career and is a spokesperson for the USBC. He has no option but to always be in the spotlight of close scrutiny. When it boils down to it , he still one of the most versatile and knowledgeable bowlers on tour.

Why would asymmetrical stuff be better for him?

ever notice how his ball seems to stop in front of the pins. I think the asymetrical core balls will help him overall with hitting power and carry

If nothing else, it gives him many more options

i would have to agree. he would be more a lot more deadly with equipment that kept driving. i love to watch his style, i cant stand watching his ball reaction

Chris Barnes IS NOT the Tiger Woods of bowling. Tommy Jones could be sold from that point much better, he's lost once on TV (Roll to Riches last year) or WRW would be sold as the greatest, both times they go out there to roll, you know they could both walk off with a title easily, Chris Barnes and the choke against Haugen doesnt help his case.

I'm sure you could stand to throw as many strikes as he does on those patterns. :D
One of there main objectives is to control the back part of the lane....along with reading the mids well. Symmetric equipment accomplishes that a little better than asymmetric high diff stuff.

yes but the asymetrical cored balls can be fine tuned better than the symetrical stuff which would benefit his game style alittle better.

You cant fine tune them enough to give up a 6 figure contract. :D

you have a valid point blue. So I guess the money is more important than his performance .

chris barnes is a very good bowler in my opinion. every once in awhile he will have problems but that's just him getting in his own way, everyone has seen that before. i believe the reason he is so publicized is not only hes the spokesperson for the usbc, but because he knows the sport of bowling really well and he knows how to explain it very well. he's young, clean cut and a positive figure for viewers watching.

I met him though, and he wasn't as personable as you would think. Not anything like Doug Kent or Billy O. Met all three at Junior Gold last summer and I was able to sit and talk with Doug and Billy for about 20 minutes on the stuff that was coming out at that time. With Chris Barnes, he stood like a statue, didn't talk, and didn't really seem like he wanted to be there.

Well...He is performing better after switching from Brunswick, which had predominantly more asymmetric stuff than Columbia.

Chris Barnes looks like an action figure, just look at him for a bit, he looks plastic.

Chris is a superstar on the pba tour like him or dislike him he is great! to be over rated is hard to say becuase he makes a lot of shows but just think how hard it is to do that! win or lose u had a great tourney. i dont care for the guy but he out performs almost everyone so that would be hard to be over rated in my book. as for under rated my boy micheal haugen jr. won 2 titles this year and he uses amf gotta love that love when you can win with not up to par equipment, as my hammer staffer pro shop guy says

just looking at the past season of bowling it looks like chris barnes made 10 shows including the roll to riches which i think he was voted in. Over rated i think not! Also here another good stat from a "superstar" Tommy Jones only made 3 shows hes gonna have to be my most overrated This season! doesnt show me much guess cuz i dont see him that often! IF tommy jones is so great and chris is so over rated it just doesnt make sense to me. and chris was ahead of tommy in every major stat this year!

Tommy isnt overrated, he is the BEST player on tour under pressure. His TV record speaks for itself, look at what Chris did, he shouldnt have even won Player of the Year IMO, I thought Norm Duke was a better option, but I think he won his titles too late in the year for them to matter.

Darn crankers..... I will agree TJ had a down year. I don't think Barnes is overrated, neither do I think Tommy Jones is underrated. Anyone who follows the tour knows what TJ can do. I would take him first over any other power player. As far as Barnes not being player of the year, the points system is what it is.... I don't disagree with it, but I'm sure there could be improvements. You get rewarded for consistently making it into the later rounds which has to tell you something about the player. I'll compare Chris Barnes to a John Elway or a Dan Marino. They are Hall of Famers. Marino never got a ring, Elway didn't until his last two seasons. They are still considered two of the best at their positions, and I never hear anyone calling them OVERRATED. Same scenario... you can call Barnes overrated all you want but I want him on my team because ya know you're not going to get rollercoaster of a performance week in and out.
