Hey fellow bowlers, I bought a hammer doom about six months ago and it seems to be losing it's hook potential. When I am able to find the right pattern it still destroys the pins, but it just seems to have lost a little. Any suggestion on rejuvenating it or should I be looking for a new ball, cause I am debating on the no mercy! What do u guys think and how long do u usually use one ball

You can either revive the Doom or go for a new ball. It really depends on what you want, and how much money you want to spend. The less expensive route is sticking with the Doom and having it, possibly, resurfaced or cleaned. New balls are always fun, though. They just cost more. Just be aware that the No Mercy is a VERY different ball than the Doom is.

I guess my question to you do you want to rejuvenate your old ball???? Sounds almost like you are looking for a reason to justify getting a new ball, not that there is a problem with that. To revive your old ball a lot of people actually give a warm soapy bath to draw out oils. Some use a citrus based household cleaners. Formula 409 also works well. You could also go the resurfacing route. As for how long do I keep using a ball, for me it depends on how much I like the ball, but usually anywhere from 2-5 years for me. I have a friend that still uses his original blue hammer and he averages 215 year in and year out and he never cleans it, ever. I hope this helps your decision on what to......

I will usually get a ball I regularly use resurfaced every 4 or 5 months. Some times switching between mat and polished depending on the league conditions and how my other equipment is matching up.
Check this out for deep ball cleaning, it may not help, but has worked for me... Also, the ebonite hook-again treatment works with some coverstocks... Regards - Chris
