Using tape to find my pap, should the tape be centered at the beginning or the end of my ball's journey down the lane. I want to verify my pap location tonight.

From what I understand it should be centered the entire way down and should look like its staring back at you like not moving the entire way down (this could be wrong but its how I understood it).

Beginning... for most ppl it wont stay the same all the way down because the ball migrates to different axis as it gets into its roll unless you have zero axis tilt to begin with.

Exactly, the ball will migrate from the PAP to the PSA.
It should be steady, generally atleast to the arrows.

I agree with SNIPER. When I get my students(adults and juniors) into a new ball and I get them laid out the way these new balls are intended to be drilled, I take my students down to the lanes and I read their oil track line and I use a piece of white tape to get a reading on their PAP. :)

I"m so confused! I thought my PAP would be away from the pins just after release. Is this correct or is it facing straight back at me? My pro shop just " I know and will drill correctly for you" I'm guessing he in fact does but I would like to know.

take a grease pencil, crayon or what ever and draw a line arround an avarage track line. Place the ball on a table with the line you drew, 1) closest to the table; 2) parallel to the surface of the table.
the PAP will be the point on top of the ball. try balancing a large coin or poker chip etc... on top of the ball to find it.
Then you can run a piece of tape from that point to top side of the center of your finger holes.
you'll see the tape rotate like a propeller while its skidding, then flare out as the ball picks up it roll..
I've done this a number of times on a many of the familys balls
hope this helps...
If I remember, I'll do this sometime this weekend and post the video.

First off,why do you feel the need to verify your PAP? It is what it is.
Second, just use the oil ring on the ball to find it.

While no one will argue that it is what it is, sometimes facts are nothing more than interesting things to know.
Knowing where the pap is and running a piece of tape from it to over the center of the bridge is a good tool for feedback.
Given that you're practicing to replicate a release, this is quite usefull as watching the tape rotate will tell you right away if the ball came off your hand the same way twice, within a margin or error...

Ball motion will tell me that. I understand the tape thing, but I would hate to see it used as a crutch for rolling the ball correctly. What happens when it's league night and there's no tape on the ball to help you out??? This is what practice is for,to learn all these things by feel so that come league or tournament time you're as prepared as you can be.
