View Full Version : Is it worth starting over from square one?

I mentioned this as a side note before and at least one person was shocked. I'm left handed... I write left handed, I eat left handed... Even as bad as my astigmatism is, I have better vision out of my left eye.
BUT, I learned to play every sport since I could walk with my right hand. Don't know how it happened, but this world is bias to right handers in many aspects.
Do you see where I'm going with this? I'm not worried about restarting my arsenal or redrilling at this point, but this idea was jokingly suggested by my driller and good friend when he heard me talking my lefthandedness one day. All my equipment is drilled righty, but who thinks it would be worth it to pursue lessons/ a change to being a lefty. He seems to think that potentially I would probably be better as a lefty. It sounds so tempting.

I have a friend who can bowl a 230 avg with his right hand and 210 avg with his left.
Im sure the left will naturally be the stronger side for you but its going to be a case of just doing a few shots left handed to see what it feels like.
Also, another theory to try, try throwing a baseball right handed see how far it goes, then see if you can get anywhere near it throwing left handed. Can you replicate the distance speed and form lefty? I know for certain I look like an idiot trying to throw left handed but if you really have the knack for it then move on to bowling.
Remember leftie's use both there right and left side of their brains at once when doing tasks where as a rightie just uses one lol. Which explains me looking stupid throwing leftie heh.

it's worth the time and effort to see if you can do it. just start with one ball and start practicing. you don't have to switch all at once or go entirely lefty. you can still bowl either way. i have a friend that decided to try bowling left handed in his summer league this year and i've toyed with the idea as well. all you can do is try it and see if you like it.

If you're find with your right hand, there is no reason to start over. Everyone has a different eye dominance. I am right handed and left eye dominant, you just need to adjust accordingly with where you hold the ball in your starting stance (you're supposed to start it in line with your dominant eye). I'm absolutely fine with the way things are right now. I think you should be too, I dont think it would be worth starting entirely over in order to "fix" something that can be fixed through a very small adjustment in your starting position.

Stop thinking. You are not him. He may turn out to be the second coming of Johnny Petraglia, but he ain't gonna find out unless he tries. All it's gonna cost him is one ball and some practice time. It's not like you're forking over the dough for this experiment.
It's called trying to get better. Ain't nothing wrong with that.
Maybe you should try it.
Oh look,it's 5pm and the sun is out. Is your next post gonna tell me that I'm full of it and it's really dark outside???

No, but I'm saying that he will waste time he could be spending getting better with his other hand instead of trying his left hand. What makes you think that changing hands will totally make someone 1000% better (barring severe physical limitations)?

Not necessarily trying to 'fix' anything as you put it. I am a lefty, why not learn with my left arm. I may find my self to be ten times more accurate. There's nothing wrong with my style now, I was just told that POTENTIALLY I could be alot better going lefty. Plus everyone can hate me for not having the same pattern breakdown, lol.

I know that was a poor choice of words, just it would take a lot more time to get close to where you are with your right hand because you get to go through the, I'm-not-accurate-enough-to-keep-the-ball-on-the-lane phase again.

Yo doofus,he's a lefty anyway. Or did you gloss over that part??? I don't think it will make "someone" better, but in this particular case I can't see where it will hurt HIM.
Now,why won't it hurt??? Because I've already seen this movie. My kid brother is a lefty who learned to throw righty because thats what the rest of the kids in the neighborhood were. Once he changed to his "normal" hand his scores took off. Still can't beat me though.
NOW are you happy???

Bingo! That reason alone is worth giving it a try.

I know he's a lefty normally Rowdy, I can read. I'm not SPESHUL. I was offering my opinion on it, why in the hell do you have to go after it like that? I'm in no f***ing mood for it right now.

Yeah, yeah I know Rowdy. And no I dont kiss my mother with this mouth, I dont kiss my mother.
Things have been more than stressful lately, I'm normally used to it, but things are just getting ridiculous. Also, doesnt help I'm running on about 3 hours of sleep over the last week.

jara i think its a pretty good idea to try it, just like everyone said do it with one ball first, just to see if its gonna work, that way its not 400 to plug stuff and then plug it back because u didnt like it.

I'd switch to lefty. Those guys have an advantage, it must be the alignment of the stars or something..

Also, you could try a house ball to get the feel of bowling with that hand, see if you can hit the mark you aim and if you can do it 'just about' then I say go for it.
Anyone see my video when I took one shot lefty lol:rolleyes:

I already have one of my pearls that would be a perfect plug a drill for a lefty. Still never figured out where to put that one in my rotation. It's the one with the #4 drill, change to a lefty and it becomes a skip/flip instead of a long smooth arc. Cool.
