Okay, this fall I'm gonna be captain of one of the bowling teams (prolly not the number 1 because I DO NOT want to be stuck with those clowns who dont take bowling seriously again.) and I already have 4 of the 5 bowlers who are going to be on the team figured out, but I need help with the lineup.

I'm going to be anchoring because I do the best out of all of us under pressure (not my opinion, a consensus among the team), I'm going to be set up by my friend who has the same skill level as me. Those are the only two bowler spots I have figured out.

Remind me again what all of the positions are for, I cant think of it for the life of me right now, I only have Algebra 2 stuck in my head

sorry about the "n00bish" question guys.

You can do it based on skill level, the least expierienced bowler goes first, most exp goes last. That way the first guy can goof up and the rest of the team can pick him up.

The there's the who rolls where approach, the guy with the tightest line goes first on out to the guy on the outside. This way can shove oil out of your way,but the downside is if that the other team isn't asleep at the switch they'll pick up on what you're trying to do and roll on the line you're burning in.

Some teams like to start off with a strong bowler,go to the weaker guy and then finish strong again with the last two.

What this will really come down to is the mental makeup of your team. Some guys never want to be the first to do anything,so putting them up first is just asking for trouble. Some guys want the ball at the end of the night with all the pressure on the line. They thrive on this stuff. They want to throw that last frame and drive a stake in the other team. Guys like.....Me.:)

You should know these guys and thier games. The order will come to you. Write out all of the different combinations the lineup could have and I'll bet one jumps out at you.

Remember, nothing is cast in stone, you are allowed to change the order from week to week. Keep moving things around until you hit on the combo that works.

The teams I bowl on line up like this-----
1. Myself (highest ave.). I set the pace, if I'm stringing the 2 & 3 spots seem to warm up.
2. 4th highest average. Usually spares right behind me and some times gets a string going
3. Lowest avereage. Doesn't feel pressured in the middle
4. 3rd highest average. Capable of setting up the 5th slot.
5. 2nd high average. A competitor who can strike.

If we're in a close match I try to get up & throw my 10th before the person across from me (while observing proper etiquette, of course... Doesn't always work but I try for it),,, most other teams have a "weaker" bowler in the 1 slot who may "wilt" after I've doubled or turkeyd the 10th with the game on the line..... Thus setting the "pace' for both teams.

1st position should be one of your best and highest energy level bowlers, he'll get the team started up and get the pace started for the team.
2nd position really could be anything, you'd probably want one of your lower average bowlers here or 3rd if your looking to put someone like that somewhere.
3rd is the person that anchors the team and gets the game set up for the bottom 2 bowlers.
4th position should be one of your stronger bowlers scoring wise as well as bowling under pressure, he is to get the game in the range of the last bowler and should be able to throw 3 in the tenth when needed.
the 5th position (anchor is obvious), your strongest bowler, plus the best bowling under pressure, needs to be someone that is very good at filling frames and someone that can string strikes together.

The lineup you just described is absolutely the one I believe in. Most people feel the second highest average bowler should be first, however, having that bowler in the fourth position (to set up the anchor), is best in my opinion. However, that bowler should be able to perform under pressure, or it won't work.

Actually, I ran into that problem last year as anchor: On paper, my fourth bowler had the highest average, but wasn't able to perform in clutch situations. This year I have new teammates, so hopefully it will work out. If not, I'm prepared to change the lineup.

Good luck!
