What do I do about this ball? It was basically brand new, and I didn't even get a chance to drill it sarge easter, because that's the grip I use now. :/
Bubba, if you see this post, i'm Brian Longo, Dave's brother! We haven't really had a chance to talk, and maybe even you can see what Hammer can do with this ball. I do not know who to contact otherwise. This is an older ball, but it was a rarity.

idk what they will do as it has no warranty anymore due to u having grips in the ball and the pin being that close to the finger hole. but its always worth a try.

Because its a ball they no longer make, I don't think they will warranty it for you. :(

Man, that sucks. :/
I don't know. I thought it was worth a try, because i've seen a different company warranty a ball that cracked, and they no longer make it either. Well, I will see, I guess. Hopefully something can be done.. I also did really like this ball. A very different movement than most i've ever thrown.
how long ago did you purchase the ball?

I would take it to the proshop where you had it drilled and have them contact either their distributor or hammer directly to see if there is anything they can do. as stated above, once you put finger inserts it does void the warranty but sometimes they will still be able to do something. the only bad thing is the age of the ball, since it's well past the 1year warranty they may not do anything at all, but it's worth a shot at asking. if nothing else, contact jeff ussery directly. i have his direct line and cell phone if you want to pm me and i'll send it to you.

Hi Brian: Sorry I took so lomg getting back to you but I was in Potssville for the Practice session for the senior Regional tomorrow.
How long have you had the ball . I do not think they will warranty it unless you bought it recently NIB from a Proshop or distributor. It depends also if you have a reciept showing the purchase price and date . You could contact Jeff Ussery and send him the pics and explain it to him. Click contact us at the bottom of the page and Jeff will get it. I won't se you at the lanes this weekend like I said I will be at the Regional. I will talk to you hopefully during the week.

I have issues with this whole not let not warranty it because grip where installed. Come on grips have been around for a while now, and many many balls have not cracked.
How was the ball stored? Sunlight, A/C vents, type of floor or off the floor?

yea and most ball companies if its only grips and its decently new, they will replace it. but this is an old ball

The way Brian Graham explained it to me way back when was if too much Super Glue,or the wrong kind of glue,is used on the inserts the rise in temperature during the chemical reaction of the glue doing it's thing may crack the ball.
That and the fact that SOME,(not all, just some),drillers don't round off the top edge of the fingerhole a touch before they stick the insert in the hole. The edge catches on something and a small crack will start. Small cracks ALWAYS turn into huge cracks.

You think as many bowling balls sold each year and replugged they'd make a super glue that would not cause the reaction.
everyhole on the ball is suppose to buzzed to round off the edge, my proshop posted pre-Ebonite warranty from Columbia. Told me every company was the same.

Ebonite does make a glue for inserts. Thing is,you're only supposed to use a few drops of it,not squeeze half the tube in there. Too much glue= Too much heat.
And while every hole SHOULD have it's edge rounded off some,I have seen drillers who won't do it if they're going to be putting an insert in the hole. I've even seen X-holes with an edge so sharp that the bowler got cuts on his fingers from picking up the ball. Just another case of shoddy work.

Exactly. I have replaced countless inserts that had so much damn glue in there I spent more time cleaning up the hole from the grip that was left behind than drilling another ball. I only use a drop at the front and back of the insert, and also below the outer cover line. I have NEVER had someone come back to me with there insert comming out either.

Ya, if you dont knock down the edge it will chip, even with inserts.

I love watching some guys in a Pro Shop put so much glue around an insert that when they let the insert go the glue actually runs out the top of the fingerhole and down into the insert. I have seen someone get thier finger glued into a ball like that.
And what happens when theres a chip like that??? Cracks.

All I'm saying is that I'm surprised they come up with new coverstocks, cores, shoes, tools... etc for bowling but glueing inserts is still a issue. I know several companies make glue, but don't think they've made anything that solves the issue.
When I glue inserts they get two drops, below the cover. (Small Drops.)

Evidently these people do not know how tompick a ball up off the rack then. Wht would anyone pick a ball up using an XHole ! And I haven't see any XHoles beveled neither and none has ever chipped that I saw.

Some people see any old hole in a bowling ball and they just can't help but stick a finger in it.

bubba, if my inertia is on the return and its turned so the x-hole is the only one facing up, i'll just grab it from there

I can understand that pains, but why risk anything happeneing to you fringer . I must be just old and used to the old way. I pick my ball off the return by grabing it with 2 hands. one on each side of the ball and then lift.

same here, i've gotten into the habit of picking up all my bowling balls that have an x-hole that way...although i know it's best to use both hands!

I keep my balls in a locker at the alley.
I usually put my thumb in the thumb hole, and middle finger in the X-hole, just because it allows me to hold my shoes with the extra fingers.
and because with my left hand I don't feel comfortable holding the ball with fingertip grips.
I never even thought about it being a problem carry'ing the ball this way.

I usually pick it up with 2 hands, but when Im a little unhappy with myself I usually flip it up with 2 fingers, but when I pick up my gf's off the rack for her I have to pick it up by the weight hole because thats the only hole that fits my finger.
