Hello Everyone.
I just ran across this site yesterday so I decided to sign up. I have been reading many posts while I was waiting to be approved to be able to post.
I am live in Georgia. I have been bowling off and on since I was old enough to roll a ball. Due to living location and work I have not bowled on a league in about 6 years/ The local bowling alley sucks (and it's pretty new) I just went to the bowling alley for the first time in the last two years a couple of weeks ago then again this past Saturday.
Gosh was my arm sore.. LOL I have a Red Reactive hammer, a Messenger, and a reactive LT-48
When I was active on leagues I finished my last league with a 210 avg. This past Saturday when we went I rolled a 202, 190 and a 204. I am not sure if the lanes have changed that much or if it's new oil pattern or maybe my Hammer is just worn out. My hammer is my heavy oil ball. When I went two weeks ago my best was a 216 (with my messenger second game) Rolled my hammer first game with a big ole 161  It seems the ball does not react like it used to. I normally throw around 15 +/-2 to the 5. No way was the ball going to hit the pocket. I had to go more down and in then I would hit way high. I decided to pull the messenger out and done just fine..
Saturday I started with the hammer done SO SO with it. But still it's high or low pulled out the LT-48 got a much more constiant roll and started strokin then :) Two back to back splits in the last game hurt me.
I bought some Powerhoust ball cleaner off ebay to try after I give the hammer a hot water bath.. I have already told the wife I plan on getting on a league come spring. (Sunday league) If the hammer does not come around I will be looking into buying a Hammer Bite, Venom, or a Peral. Of course I will wait till I get more games in before I say I need a new ball. It might just be the way I am throwing it. ;)
I work second shift so bowling throught the week is out... :-(
My accomplishments are.
300 Games (two and not in the same set one was practice one in league) :D
823 Series

Pinslayer welcome to the Hammer Message Board. Welcome back to the sport after a 6 year lay off. Alot has changed since you bowled league last. The oil pattern, the equipment has change tremndously. Todays Reactive Coverstocks and cores are far mor advanced that earlier years. Todays equipment soak up alot more aggressive and soak up more oil than before. They reguire a rigurous cleaning schedule to keep them preforming like new.
Don't be affraid to ask any question as there are alot of people that are willing to help and advise.
You will find a wealth of information here. Welcome again and enjoy the forum

Welcome aboard, the oil now is a little different than it used to be but you old equipment should still work it will just be a little different now. If you like the more pearlized feel go with the Venom, if you want more midlane don't be afraid to look at a Raw Psycho.

Welcome, Glad to have you aboard. The Anger is a great ball in the oil and very cost effective. It's 2000 oob and quite versitle.
Everyone has their favorites, you just have to match the ball surface to the conditions.

Thanks for the welcome. I am sure I will be looking for a new ball before I get on a spring league. If the oil has changed that much I don't think the Hammer I have now will roll like it used to (like I want it to).. The funny thing is My LT is hooking better than my hammer. It's drilled to go long then hook. More of a down and in ball. But I had to put a arc in it to hit the pocket. As of now I am happy with my scores after not rolling a ball in 2+ years. I have missed some easy spares causing 2 to 3 open frames per game but O well I will get there again..

I will look into all of the hammer line when it comes time to replace my red hammer. I need a hard hooking ball. If I throw a little wide with my hammer it will not come back to the pocket like it used to it just slides on out and hits the 3 6 pin.. It used to be it did not matter if I went wide she came back if I went really wide like to the 1 or 2 board she came back. Not the case now. I will try cleaning and some 1000 or 2000 Abralon then take it from there.

This is how I used to roll my Red hammer. (same line) But now it does not come back like this anger does.
Go to the 3 minute mark on the video.

Neat, you found my driller. Be carefull that you dont get the surface too coarse. It may not generate enough friction when it hits the dry in the backend to make the turn.

That guy in the video drills your balls? That's cool..
Correction on my Hammer.. It's the Super hook 3D offset (red)
That being said would you still suggest the Anger over the Bite?

If you need a ball with a strong continuation and a very strong backend, take a serious look into Hammers new Sauce Ball. Here are two links for info and a video thanks to Jeff Ussery Hammer's Brand Manager.
Sauce Info and video. Scroll down alittle on that page to see the video

I would also suggest the Anger over the Bite if you're looking for a continuous hook motion on the ball. the bite can be a little skid flippy for some people. if you can find a Hammer/Ebonite Demo Days going on near you, you'd be able to try some of the new equipment before you decide what you want to buy. also, watch the videos of some of the balls on the main page of Hammer's website to give you an idea of how the balls react.
Also, welcome back to the sport. Just enjoy yourself and have a great time.

Also, just due to the Anger being symmetrical and the Bite being a High Mass Bias ball, the Anger is more forgiving to changes in release/speed.
Either ball is great though, I don't think you could go wrong either way as long as you get the right drilling on it.

Yes, My son ( 15 yrs ) has both. He usually uses the ANGER first. The BITE has the potential of being to sharp in the backend. After a few frames of S72 with the bite, he gets the idea to put it away and pull out the BWS.
If you look at the SAUCE video, my son throws almost the exact same line with the ANGER as Jeff does.
I am absolutly cetain that you will enjoy the ANGER.
I have my high game with it.
You can read a review if it here.

I will look into the demo days.. Watching vids only helps so much. I don't know there lane conditions.. I need a ball for heavy oil. (if my Hammer will not coms back to life) I have watched many of the Hammer Vids already but not knowing the lane conditions it's hard to watch one and say I need that ball..

From Hammer, for heavier with continuation I would say either the new Sauce, or a Pyscho at 2000 grit, it would be too squirty at OOB But does have a nice continuation through the deck. I personally cant recommend an Anger didnt like mine but a lot of people did so they will chime in, its a good ball just didnt fit me.
If your looking into other brands, Ebonite just came out with the Striking Motion, comes out November 11th and is a heavy oil continous strong arc ball. The NVD with an arcing drill would be ok but not the best. Or something like the Columbia Noize for a cheaper option. Just some other ideas.
