Well The wife and I went bowling tonight. They had Moonlight (cosmic) bowling with Red pins.. I won 3 free games.. Wooo Hoooo.
So here is the scoop after cleaning my Hammer 3D offset.. First two Frames OPEN and a OPEN.. Ball just will not hook.. So I pull out the LT-48 Gold and play down and in.. Managed to pull out a 187. Then second game was a 214.. Then the third game fell to s*** for some reason. Big ole 161:eek: Pretty bad considering I finished my last league with a 210 avg.
Well at this point the 4th game I started just playing with the Messenger and went back to the Hammer.. Now keep in mind I rolled two frames with the hammer before this game. Now the ball is hooking almost like it used to. But not very consistant... If I go too wide she will not recover unlike 7 to 8 years ago.
I do believe my Hammer has seen better days. I would bet I have well over 200 games with this ball. So I decided tonight to retire it... My Wife bought me a brand new Sauce for a early Christmas present. :D
I put a deposit on it and Herman will place the order Monday and should have it in a couple of days but I doubt I will be able to go get it drilled before Saturday maybe Sunday..
Not a bad price either.. I am getting it for $189.99+ Tax and finger inserts.. Drilling is included in the purchase price..
I have been looking at the Sauce and the Black Widow Pearl as my next ball but the Sauce is for heavy oil vs the pearl for med to heavy.. I will end up with a Peral as well just not till spring or so...
Now I need to figure out how I want it drilled....

the lane conditions today wont allow ur 3D to do that anymore unless its quite dry.

I wanted to clean the ball first just to see what it would do.. Once the lane dried out it was hooking.. I was in limbo about the BWP and the Sauce. Hope I made the right choice.. I looked at the drill sheet online last night for what I want the ball for I have two options. I think I will go with the strong layout instead of the standard.

Pinslayer, you'll be suprised at the Sauce I can guarantee it. I've had mine for two weeks now and have series of 761-685-700 with it...and it's drilled with the standard layout. it still hooks a great deal, don't know how much more it would hook with the strong layout, but would be interesting to see.

I have watched the video of the standard drill and the strong.. I am leaning towards the strong.. My Hammer 3D was drilled for the strongest layout. Loved it.. But it's a different ball.
I will talk with Herman before drilling and we will decide on which layout to drill.
I am also thinking Strong becuse I already konw I will get a BWP also. So I will have a ball once the oil brakes down.
How heavy is the oil where you bowl and what type of shot do you throw?
The Strong may be a bit too much I dunno.. THe video on Hammer's site there does not seem to be much difference in the two layouts..

The 2 I have seen thrown each had the standard layout on it and the ball was very strong. Make sure you have the Powerhouse Energizer Cleaner though, this ball does pick up a lot of dust and stuff off the lane so take good care of it and it will work well.

Either one will work, I only use energizer because most of my stuff is polished so no clean and dull, I forgot this ball was 4000 abralon so no need for polish.

I feel the Srtong layout will fit best.. The standard provides more length.. That is one thing I don't need. I have a above avg ball speed so I can get the ball down the lane just need it to hook in heavy oil.

What I can say is do what you feel is best, confidence in knowing a ball will fit your game when you put it in your hands is a big thing.

who else here thinks the ball is gonna burn up and appear to not hook when he gets it???

I have seen the Sauce and its honestly hard to make it not hook, with his speed he might need the little bit of an earlier start to it, could always just polish it to make it stop burning up if it does, easy fix.

So what are you saying?
You have to remember the balls I have now are all about 9 years old. every one of them.. I have bowled maybe 8 times since 2000..
My hammer is just out of life.. I can still get my LT to hook going down and in just fine if I slow the ball down a little. The lane conditions 9 years ago are nothing like todays. Back when I bought the hammer 3D I had no problems hooking the ball..
I am sure once I get the Sauce drilled with either the Standard or the Strong I will be able to hook it just fine..

I am sure the ball will not burn up like the other guy posted.. My equipment is about 9 to 10 years old.. That alone should be enough said as to why I can not move the ball the way I used to. Guess he just thinks I don't know how to bowl.
I guess I have to prove my abilty by taking my old hammer with me also so I can throw the same line with both balls and video it...
I will let ya know the results after getting it drilled.. I need to see if my wifes little point and shoot camera will fit on my tri pod for my DSLR camera since hers will do Video...

No point in what? Your the one that was being a smart about it to start with.

I think he's trying to say he thinks that when you get the ball, it's going to waste all of its energy in the beginning of the lane and not have a strong backend (which will make you think it's not hooking) due to the aggressive coverstock. Which is more than likely what is happening to your 3D offset due to it's ultra-low grit coverstock preparation.

With the Factory Finish being 4000 Grit Abralon I somehow doubt I will use up all the energy in the beginning. Guess we will see soon enough..
Back in 96 I had not bowled since 93 after moving form Alaska to Fl then to Ga. I went thorugh the same thing with my old Blue hammer bought back in like 91 or 92 (urithane) I bought a reactive ball and had no issues at all getting the new ball to hook..

Me too, but I have no first hand experience with this particular ball. I hope it works for you and can't wait for your review (and pics) :).
On a side note, I do think that your 3D might be burning up, but I can't see you throw it so it's just a guess. Maybe take it up to 1000 abralon (or a green scotch brite pad) and see if it makes a difference?

Well I don't think it's burning up because when the lanes broke down I could get it to hook on a nice smooth path. But will not do shit on heavy oil..

This has been discussed several times over and any time generalizations are involved it is best to wait and see. I have my Sauce drilled a little weaker than standard to help save energy for the back end. It was burning up on broken lanes if I got it a little right and I have above avg speed. I added some Rough Buff to it and DAMN it finishes strong and if I miss right no burn up just brooklyn. My point in this is feel free to play with the coverstock if you want a strong layout for heavy oil then do it. And if you are planning on getting a BWP or Psycho then they would be good compliments.

i was not being smart about anything, i was telling you what i thought was gonna happen. ur the one who was being a complete ass about it ur hammer is a ton different from the sauce. no offense but i doubt u have enough oil out there right now that it will keep it from either hooking out of the house, or burning up. if ur messenger was hooking enough ur gonna be 2-3 dots left. but then you'll complain about it since u dont like to be deeper on the lane, or complain that it doesn't seem to hook. thats why i said i was done, cuz i wasnt gonna convince u anyway.

Humm Let's see. You was never telling me what you thought was gonna happen. You was being a smart ass by asking everyone else who thought the ball would burn up and appear to NOT hook... That post was directed to the forum not me...
How am I being a ASS by saying the 10 year old ball is not the same as the new Sauce. That is a 100% true statement who can prove it to be wrong? WOW you was like 5 when I bought that ball. NUFF SAID....
I tell ya what.. Come down here to the house I bowl at and throw my hammer then throw your ball.. I took my hammer back to the factory finish.... Put any finish you want to on it and try it again. If it did not burn up when it was new on fresh oil then why would it now with the same factory finish? Gee maybe cause everything has changed since my last league in 2000
Next time the wife goes with me I will be more than happy to have her take a video of both the Sauce and the old hammer. BTW the messenger and LT only hook if I slow down and the messenger is not really HOOKING more of a smooth arc....
