Hey Guys,
Sorry if this is a dumb question, but am relatively new here. What is the lightest weight that Hammer uses a full performance core? It seems to vary from manufacturer to manufacturer. I need to get one for my Wife. She needs all the help she can get at the lighter weights that she throws.
Thanks Joebokie

Joe welcome to the Hammer message board. No question is dumb and never be affeaid to ask any type of a question.
As for the core weights the heavier the ball the heavier the core weight is . The weight and position of pieces in the core are carefully researched to result in varying ball weights and desired performance. It is this core which determines the gross weight of the ball . The inner core of a ball can be designed with a variety of shapes. The characteristics of the inner core's size, shape and density play a vital role in determining how the core will influence a ball's rotation. As a ball becomes smaller in weight the core becomes smaller. The filler is material that fills the void between the coverstock and the core. The density of the filler material used to make a ball will change based on the desired weight of the ball. In essence, because all bowling balls are nearly uniform in size the filler is what enables the uniformity in ball circumference while enabling different ball weight classes. This is accomplished by changing the density of the filler material dependent upon the weight desired.
Although the filler makes up for the weight between different balls the two most important parts of a bowling ball are actually the core and the coverstock. The shape of a bowling balls core can influence whether it hooks and by how much. I would suggest choosing a ball that has a lighter core but has a coverstock that will influence the reaction also.

if its a black widow the core is the same for 13-16 anything below that, they use a different core

What weight does she throw?? I know brunswick has a number of balls with cores at 12#. VIBE line may be worth a look...
MY wife just had a hand me down 12# brunswick wizard fitted finger tip and she claims it feels lighter than her 10# Doom which was fitted conventional. Now she wants to go up in weight.....

Thanks Guys for the replies. She is going up from a 12 to a 13. I think that most of the companies have normal cores in their 13's. She is a super senior and is moving up in weight on the suggestion of a Bill Spigner article in a magazine about using a "pinkie" hole for a more secure grip. She does not have a problem with the weight per say. But the extra hole gives a firm and secure grip. We were hoping that the change in weight would get her a more dynamic core and the pound of weight can't hurt her carry either. She is throwing a BWS or her BWP at 12 right now. But thanks again for the info.

This is an reply I received from BG in May '07. I'm not sure if anything as changed since then, if so hopefully Jeff U can chime in.
Hammer uses performance cores starting in 10#. Although, the better performance specifications (RG and Differential) start at 12# with the Diesel core shape that is used in 12# and 13#. The difference from one ball to the next in 12# or 13# will be the coverstock. I would recommend the Toxic as it features a very good reactive coverstock.
As for the new balls, they are outstanding.

Would this explain why my 12 # Psycho never reacts to any changes and always rolls like a straight ball ? Is there a different core in mine, or what?
I can't help it I'm a 124 lbs guy and can't swing a heavier ball, but I did buy the Psycho base on the impressive videos of it only to see it roll like a straight ball.

In most lines the High Performance Core are in the 14# and above only. Lesser weight stuff, so from 13#... gets a different core. The Diesel core was really pretty good.
Your Psycho should react fine. Maybe if you have some video we could help. Its hard to fix a problem we can't see. Is it drilled finger tip? Where are your finger in relation to the equator of the ball. (Could be over turning the ball.) What is you PAP?
Generally coverstock controls most of the reaction of the ball.

No....balls dont hook or go straight by themsleves. You are the one driving it.

I'll try to do some video of it tomorrow night in practice. Also I'll see if I can figure out what the PAP is.
I will agree I'm not very experienced at bowling so I will say that this is true to a point. No....balls don't hook or go straight by themselves. You are the one driving it.
But I had a much more experienced bowler than I try my/the ball and it went down like a dud for him as well. It had a very slow arc to it,but nothing in the way it went wanted me to go out and buy it again. I thought it was the way I throw it making it go straight too, but it don't seem to be the case.
See if I can do some video so maybe someone could see what my problem is.
till then

If the ball fit this person, they where probably over throwing the ball. Thus no hook.
