Well my son now has a ball that hooks a little. (the Tornado) He has bowled with it 4 times now since Christmas morning.
When we went yesterday he done really well and got a new high game of 134
He still throws his arm out a little sometimes like in the first video (link below) but for the most part does not throw in front of him.
We only worked one on one just the one time a few weeks ago. The rest has been me asking him what he done wrong. He thinks about it then tells me.

BTW he got the spare in the first video..

That's great... I'm working with my sons as well. 1 in bumpers(6) and 1 in Youth(10)..
It's very satisfying seeing them develope. A few weeks ago my older one gave me a run for my money,he shot his first 200,a 202, and beat me by a single pin in practicing..It's framed on his wall. So far this year I've moved him into a finger tip ball and he's taken to it very well and he's raised his ave 27 pins and it's still creeping up each week. Makes any Parent proud...

My son has bowled in the past off and on when I went but is now really getting into it since I am back to bowling on a league. He is also learing to roll finger tip as of about 3 months ago... If I can only get him to slow his feet down and quit turning the slide foot at the end of his slide.. So far he is not bowling a league yet but maybe later this year when one starts up. Only draw back for us is he lives with his mom so when we go bowling we can't do one on one much. Because we all want to bowl together. I need to get my wife some one on one time. She got two finger tip balls for Christmas also.

Excellent...He's only been bowling for a lil over a year..really taking to it well hope he keep the interest going.. Yes the foot work and balance are 2 things we work on most and then add in consistant ball placement on the release it was over bearing at first but it's working out and he can see the results...I'm doing it basically with him I just started back 10 months ago after a 20 year break....

Hope my son takes to it the same way. Maybe by the end of the year he will bowl a avg of 150 or more.. Right now he is really only at about 100 But it's like anything else the more ya do it the better ya get...
My goal was to carry a 190 or more avg after not bowling but just a couple times since 2000 or so. As of now I am at 194 and that is only three weeks into the league. (I missed the first week so only 2 weeks for me) My last league I was 210. So I figure 190 was agood starting point considering I open bowl once a week league bowl once a week. Every ball I roll is new so I have to learn how they react to the lanes. I am having a footing problem myself (more of a slide problem) so I have a new pair of 3G shoes on the way they should be here Tuesday.

Nice...My son has a 106 ave up from 84 at the beginning of the season... Mine started at 139 and is now up to 169 my goal is to be 40 pins over that 139 start so I'm close... I'm feeling good that I can get there with the way I've been throwing lately...20 year break was way to long..needed a gallon of WD40 to loosen all the rust...Haha... Actually kinda cool is we're both listed as most improved at the mid point in our league play...would be a nice recognition at the end of the year if we can make it stick.

Yep. My arm was so sore after starting back. Not used to rolling the balls down the lane. I have yet to put a good set together. Seems like I have one game that just sucks and I always bowl one or two games before league (on a different pair) just to loosen up a bit before starting.
Maybe the first week I bowled was just because I was nor comfy. I have a partner that I never met or even knew who he was. My nerves had to settle I guess.
I wish I could bowl through the week but I woek 4pm to midnight. So I am on a Sunday Doubles league.

I know you are his coach but if you don't mind can I make a suggestion that will probably help his arm swing out some?
Have him slow his approach down. In all three videos i noticed that he was almost running to the line. Also by him slowing down he will be able to control the arm swing and make it more of a straight swing instead of the hook in it.
Again just something that I had seen.

Yes I am aware of that. I don't mind anyone throwing there two cents in. After all it's been a LONG time since I went through the coaching class. That being said I have forgot a few little tips and tricks....
I tell him all the time to slow down. It seems I am saying that almost every other frame. I tell him it's not a race to get to the line... I guess I will have to get him back to doing the approach without a ball again till he slows down.
I am not sure if he is picking up the faster approach from me or what. But as a rule mine is not super fast. But not really slow either..
I just wish I could spend more time with him. He goes without me when he is at his moms house through the week. (his balls are in a locker at the alley) So what ever he does wrong during that time I think he just keeps doing it and habbits are hard to break. LOL
I may have him take a 1/2 step forward or mabe a full step then maybe he will slow down. I know that helped me slow mine down long ago.. I still stand back where I was but now have a slower approach than I used to..
