my daughter who is 10 started bowling about 8-10 weeks ago in the local junior league...she is doing really at the moment and has adapted well to the 4 step approach, but she is having difficulty with her push-away....basically her push away is on her 2nd step which is putting her timing out.which is causing her to have problems at the foul line (losing balance and pulling shots).she is using a 10lb ball, which she says she is happy with.we have tried her with an 8lb but she still has the problem.

the instructors dont seem to have picked up on this so i was hoping someone might know of some drills/advice we could use to try to correct this problem...at the moment she cant seem to get out of the habit of pushing away on her 2nd step.when she does get it right her bowling is a lot better.

thanks

It really does not matter, which hand.

But have imagine her hand and foot are tied together with a string, so they start at the same time.

The One-Step Drill is always good as well.
Start in a staggered step stance, do your normal push-away. Once the ball hits the top of the backswing, go into the your push-off, slide and finish position. Once this is done right she'll feel what it's like to be in time.

my dad mentioned tying a piece of string to her hand and ankle.....i will look into the other ideas.thank you

i dont suppose she'll mind practising.she spends more time in the center than i do :D

if she naturally starts her pushaway on her second step, perhaps having her try taking 5 steps instead of 4. that should put her timing back on track once she gets used to it. just something to try.
