Quick question for all you smart people with modern bowling balls.

I've been rolling an Anger for 2 months or so and loving it. I needed a dry lane ball, so I recently got a Cherry Vibe. So, Tuesday night the lanes were incredibly dry and the Vibe was hooking just as much as my Anger. Here comes the question...

Do you think my Vibe is drilled to aggressive?

Lefty
PAP 4 3/4 by 3/4 up

Anger - Pin located approx. 3/4 -1" to left of ring finger, balance hole approx. 4 3/4" left (at cg) just below pap.

Cherry Vibe - pin located approx 1" above ring finger.

My understanding is that my Anger was drilled pretty aggressive and the Vibe was drilled for length with a medium back end. Can you tell from my description if I'm correct or if I should get my Vibe drilled differently?

I'm looking for a dry lane ball that will go down pretty far and have a medium hook at the break point. *sorry no pictures.

dry lane ball?

try the Hammer Razyr, the ball is amazing and depending on your rev rate the ball is fairly straight with nice movement off the dry.

its been my go to ball the past few weeks and ive shot the roof off with the ball. the ball hits just as hard as any ball ive ever thrown and carries the same. ive even got some room to miss right with mine b/c of my revs.

the ball is a piece of work

and straighter is greater :)

i swear by my razyr and the ball impresses me after every shot

I agree with Sabotage about the Razyr, it's a great dry lane ball and it does hit great. I've even had success with it on normal house shots with a small speed adjustment.

The Vibe is probably close to 5” to your pap. That should give it some length. And that close to your VAL makes it pretty angular. The Vibe is a dry’ER lane ball but by no means a dry lane ball.

The Razyr, Scout, Tornado or Power Groove are pretty good choices for dry lane balls. I prefer the Scouts because the covers are stronger and smoother than the Razyr or Tornados which makes for better control and less over/under on dry lanes

I totally agree with Sabotage about the Razyr. I had two BWPs, one drilled to go long and the other to go short and arc. The house shot got very dry and I was having a hard time with the Pearls. I bought a CV as i thought it was would be a good dry lane ball, but it reacted almost the same as the Pearls. I had it redrill twice in an attempt to get what I wanted and finally gave it away. Then I found the Razyr. Even with the pancake weight block, it hits as hard as my Pearls, but with a much more controlable hook at the end. I am a senior bowler and cant get the speed on the ball that the younegr guys do, but people cant believe that a pancake ball can move and hit like the Razyr. It is drilled standard, 3/4 and 3/4.

thats also how i got mine drilled to go long and have a little snap. but i have started to use it as my start ball because it is so agressive.

This is a very big misconception made by a lot of people with the Cherry Vibe, the CV is no where near a Dry Lane ball and isnt even a medium-dry ball. The CV is a medium and little heavier than medium ball. It will give you length but packs a very hard snap on the backend. Not great for dry lanes.

Like some of the others mentioned, I would get a Razyr or a Scout or if you want something with a core for better carry(in some cases) go with the 900 Global Link or Black/Red Bash from Ebonite.

do the balls core really make a huge difference or is it dependent on the revs and speed?

cuz i used to use a house ball with a pancake core and that sucker hit hard and i averaged quit well with it. same for the razyr, never once a carry problem. the ball still drives, carries, still even allows a slight miss right

I dont have a problem with carry with really any ball (including the Razyr when I threw it) but not knowing his rev rate or ball speed I said that. Because if he has lower revs or lower ball speed or high speed and low revs or 14lbs or lower I would definately get something with a core, personally wouldnt trust it if I was like any of those I just mentioned.

I bowl the Anger and the Cherry Vibe on this and as you can see the Vibe is definately an aggressive ball! :D

The only thing the core really does is make the ball flare.

Thanks for the responses, my computer crashed so I couldn't respond until now. I've bowled with them since I posted that I'll tell later.

Where were you playing on the lanes?

Standing at 35, throwing 15, breaking around 6,7.

All of my balls are 16 lb. I would say I have med. revs and med. ball speed.

Update!

I went bowling on Tuesday with my co-workers (getting ready for us to join a league). The lanes were dry as the week I first posted the thread. (*Note, last week was my first time throwing the CV). I kept about the same line 30/15 but made a hand adjustment. I started with 5 splits and ended up with a 179. Then 235, 199. At that point they came by and oiled the lanes. I switched to the Anger and rolled 256, 221.

I appreciate everyone's help/advise. I basically started playing with my release and everything's fine now.

I was under the impression that the CV would work better for me on dry lanes because of the length, but I didn't expect the backend snap. I'm finally getting the feel of how the CV rolls. I already know I love my Anger :)
