Default dumb question

What does baking a ball mean? I heard someone talking about putting his ball in an oven to remove oil? Really? what other methods are there out there to care for your ball? I basically just wipe my ball between shots and clean 'em when I get home after bowling---but if you all no any "tricks" to keep my ball better/longer I am all ears...thanks!

I have found out recently that alot of people around here in my town know nothing about removing oil from their balls. I tell them time and time again about how all the oil trapped within the ball can kill its reaction. They just dont listen. One guy I bowl with on a regular basis is always complaining how his ball doesnt move like it did 4 months ago. He bowls sunday league..wednesday league...and thursday league...and 3 out of 4 saturday night tournaments..hes putting games on that ball....and still says...I clean it all the time but it doesnt do what it used to...and this guy has been bowling a while too. I saw him last night...I was returning 4 balls to a friend there that I begged to let me take them home..soak them..and give them a good cleaning...after the first guy saw the difference in not only feel of the ball...but the new found reaction of the freshly soaked and cleaned balls...he called me this morning to tell me his balls were in the tub and he couldnt believe what that water looked like being topped off with so much oil lol...Oil soaks into the coverstock and core as time goes by even with cleaning the ball regularly after every session of bowling...so my advice is every few games..I do it about 20-30 games...soak your ball and get the oil out...it will prolong the life and reaction of your bowling balls.....but....this is only my opinion....happy bowling!
