Default Help Balance Hole

IM currently bowling with Black Widow set with the pin in the strong position. the pin is above between the middle finger and the ring. What i was wondering if the ball will need a balance hole in it? I have low revs with med ball speed and bowl on med oil house conditions.

It will help the ball hook more. Find the thread about Mo Pinel's opinion about where an X hole should go on the ball. Great stuff and shatters a lot of old myths about X holes.

Rowdy...I dont know you anymore. Surface changes, talking about Mo Pinel...what's next?

And...generally...balance holes are needed to bring the ball back to legal limits.

Smaller, deeper balance holes are more influential on the ball's roll than large shallow ones (I have a great example of this in my BWS vs. my Anger, the balance hole on my BWS changes my track and it is tiny and deep, while my Anger's is shallower, but larger.)

Also...if the balance hole is beyond your VAL it will decrease flare, if it is inside of your VAL it will increase flare.

But still, balance holes are needed on a ball to ball basis, especially with a high mass bias ball. You could get a nice Pin, CG, and MB line that perfectly complements your layout you want to put on it and not need a balance hole. Really on a high mass bias ball, the mass bias placement is going to be the big changer in how it hooks rather than pin placement. Pin placement still effects somethings, but the MB placement will change the actual shape of the shot the most (on High Mass Bias balls at least.)

It depends on where the CG is in relation to the pin and how much side, finger or thumb weight you have.

Actually thats backwards. Inside your VAL will decrease flare
