If you wanted to try a different weight ball would you buy one secondhand and do a plug/drill job (total cost around $95) or buy a brand new ball for $110 and have first drill yourself (total cost around $155)?
Been bowling with 15lb for a couple of years now and have been thinking for a while about whether it's worth dropping a pound. I've got a 14lb Groove but am toying with the idea of getting a more aggressive 14lb to go with it. Choices, governed by cost and immediate availability (cost more than anything though), are narrowed down to a Trifecta @ $50 shipped plus plug/drill, an Ace @$60 plus shipping and plug/drill, or a Vendetta Maxx @ $110 shipped plus drill (but it's a brand new ball). The only other option is a Doom for $80 plus shipping plug/drill but that brings it too close to the Dynothane in overall price. The Trifecta looks the better deal on paper but Storm gear smells funny. |

I dunno, if you want to mess with something the X Factor Ace was a great ball, I had my 800 with it and multiple 700s its very smooth, holds well in on the oil and packs a punch coming from outside off the dry. Wow that feels weird talking good about a Storm ball, havent done that in a long time.....well it still smells

I was thinking about this too especially after tonight, I was throwing my buddies PBA inferno which is exactly my same span except with a slightly tighter thumb hole and its 14 pounds and it seemed like that ball had a steering wheel in it. My speed was a bit higher and i dont think i missed my mark once ended up with a 241 with it. I dont know that had to do with the weight difference but it really makes me think

I've been doing this myself. I've been constantly losing on EBAY. I've been trying to get a 15 lb ball just to see how my roll would be vs. the 16.
I just decided to give up on a No Mercy (16) since it would run around 90-100 to get redrilled and shipped. Just the other day I would have won an Ebonite NVS for 27. Low and behold I wanted this Pure Hammer that was barely used and ended up losing both. Man I was mad. That NVS was perfect for me but knowing my luck I would have won both.

www.bowlingball.com has a sale everyday called the striking value. I bought my wife a 12# Fury for 49 w/free shipping and then 2 weeks ago I bought myself a 14# Fury for 69, free shipping. The sale pretty much changes every day.
I switched to 14 3 years ago and could not be happier. Of course I'm old and not that strong any more .Rowdy's right. Using old technology just to try the weight won't show you what this weight is capable of doing. My Bite almost makes me look like a power cranker the way the pins move on impact. Good Luck

I think he is just buying the ball to see how his roll is and consistency is. So Rowdy, an older ball is ok.

No. If I wanted to find out what a 14 pound BWS would do for me,why would I buy a 14 pound FaBall? The test would be meaningless if the balls were different.

No hes not seeing what a specific ball is doing, Im getting a feeling that he just wants to see what will happen to his form and if his roll changes at all. Like if he gains more revs/speed/both.
